BUSY TIME FOR HAMPTON LAKES VOL FIRE COMPANY

1/13/09 Sta 172 responded for a total of 3 Calls for the Day.  At 8:59 Sta 172 was dispatched for MVA at Friendship Rd.  RE1723 (with 5) and C1720 responded.  Upon arrival 1720 found a car into a tree.  The crew from RE1723 secured the car.  At 17:38 second dispatch of the day was to 1823 RT 206, Haas Construction for white smoke and bad odor from building.  RE1723 (with 5) and E1722 (with 4) responded.  Upon arrival of 1723, the crew of 1712 were investigating found the smoke was from a neighbors chimney.  Companies were recalled by 1712.  The third call of the day was at 204 RT 72 at New Lisbon, this call was dispatched at 19:40 for Search and Light assignment.  RE1723 (with 5) and C1720 (with 4) responded.  Placed in staging, upond arrival 2900 released the station.

1/14/09  Sta 172 was dispatched at 02:06 for odor of smoke at 216 N. Plymouth Ct.  RE1723 (with 5) and E1722 (with 2) responded .  The crew of 1723 investigated using gas detector and TIC.  No problem found 1720 made all units available.  At 07:00 dispatched for MVA/Rescue Assignment.  RE1723 (with 5) responded which was recalled enroute by 1710.

1/15/09  Sta 172 Dispatched for MVA at Rt 70 & Burrs Mills Rd.  RE1723 (with 5) and C1720 responded.  1720 and 4300 arrived found 2 car MVA in roadway with injuries.  Crew of 1723 secured the cars.   Next dispatch for Sta 172 to 81 Pemberton Rd for MVA/Rescue Assignment.  RE1723 (with 5) responded.  1723 was recalled enroute by 1712.  Third dispatch of the day was to 364 Medford Lakes Rd.  for dwelling.  RE1723 (with 5) responded.  Recalled by 4300.

1/16/09 Sta 172 dispatched to 24 Narberth Pl  for investigation.  RE1723 (with 5), E1722 (with 3) and C1720 responded.  1720 arrived found a water pipe broken.  The electric was secured.  While the crew of 1723 secured the water, the crew of 1722 assisted with the removal of items in the attic.

As an additional note, We have a Great start to the new year with the  participation in activities and calls, which is appreciated by the Officers of Sta 172. 


 
HAMPTON LAKES RESPONDS TO TABERNACLE

Around 1000 hrs Taskforce 43 was dispatched to the number block of summit drive in Tabernacle twp. for dwelling fire. State police onlocation reporting heavy smoke condition from roof area. RE1723 (with 5) was third due engine was order to help with the interior crews open up checking for extentions. T1726 (with 2) AND E1722 (with 4) were at staging were later released by command. RE1723 was released and back in the township shortly after. 


 
DWELLING FIRE IN HAMPTON LAKES

Taskforce 1724 (172,171,178,179) Q431, E292 and R.I.T.251 was dispatched to the number block of Lee Ln. in Hampton Lakes for dwelling fire. 1720 Arrived first reported 1 story S/F/D with heavy smoke through out the house. Placed all companies in service, RE1723 (with 4) first to arrive to stretch 1 3/4 to division "c", E1722 (with 4) arrived second due was ordered to vent the structure. T1726 (with 2) arrived third due was order supply RE1723 with water. U1728 (with 5) staged on stagecoach rd was used for man power. CP17 reported all occupants were out of the house. RE1723 did a quick knockdown of the fire, major overhaul was started to check for extension. The fire is still under investigation.

VEHICLE INTO THE DWELLING RESCUE ASSIGNMENT

Station 172 was dispatched out to South Westminster Drive for a reported vehicle into the dwelling. Command 1720 (Fenton) was first on location confirming that there was a a 2003 Toyota, Avalon with one victim still trapped inside parked in the kitchen of the house. Engine 1722 (Meola, Matt) arrived on scene directly after C1720 pulling an 1 3/4 attack line, ventilating the dwelling and began the rescue of the 73 year old home owner. Chief's Meola, Fenton and FF Matt had the victim out prior to the next due arriving on location. RE1723 with 6, RE1712 with 6 and C1710 were also on location. Crews then secured the water to the residence and cleared a pathway for the vehicle to be removed threw the garage. The 73 year old home owner was transported by BLS 439 to be checked out, there was no reported injuries on scene. unit's cleared shortly after.


 
   
   
ADVANCED VEHICLE RESCUE CLASS AT HLFC

Saturday and Sunday Emergency Training and Consulting taught a fast paced Rescue Course at Station 172, This advanced vehicle extrication program, was 4  hours of classroom, and 14 hours practicals. Topics covered: ABCs of Vehicle Rescue, New Vehicle Technology, Winch Theory, Scene Control, Tactics & Organization, Incident Command, Airbag Operations, Hydraulics, Chainsaw, Hand Tools, Sawzalls, Torches, Stabilization, Door removal, Roof Removal, Dash Push, Hazards & Knots. This class follows the basic extrication program, and involved more complex scenarios and situations. These include vehicle overrides and under-rides, impalement's, and overturned vehicles.  The rescue airbag portion, was a great refresher for those that have had a basic level program. There was an informative classroom session prior to the practical; this is for the new as well as seasoned responder. Students had an opportunity to use high pressure air bags (118 PSI) during the practical evolution. Hampton Lakes Fire Company would like to thanks ET&C for the outstanding weekend of training.


 
   
   
SEARCH AND RESCUE DRILL AT 172

On Tuesday night Chief (Fenton), Deputy Chief (Meola) and Captain (Gader) of the Hampton Lakes Fire Company held a Search Rescue drill at Station 172. Crews went over different  techniques for both large and small area  searches. They were broken down into two man teams using the buddy system they had to locate objects within the engine bay area. There basic senses were were hindered due to loud noise, lose of sight and feel. Every one had to depend on there basic firefighting skills using left and right handed searches. After all groups completed this evaluation, they were give a large group scenario to complete. RE1723 with a crew of 7 were given the task of going into service at a "moc" Commercial building fire with 1 victim missing. Crews broke down into a search team and a attack team to complete the required task. The training was physically demanding and all members who participated did a outstanding job.


 
   
   
HLFC RESPONDS ALL DAY

On Saturday afternoon southern New Jersey was hit with a rain storm the lasted into the the night. This storm brought a large amount of rain and high winds.  Command 1720 (Fenton), Utility 1728 (Herbster) and Rescue Engine1723 (Meola) responded to multiple wires and transformer calls to include a single car MVC on Huntington Drive. involving a HazMat release. A grey chevy SUV drove over and through a main ground based transformer box off of Huntington Drive, breaking the transformer of at the base. Approximately 20 gallons of transformer acid leaked out and had to be contained by damning the sewers drains.  County HazMat was requested to assist with the spill clean up. D/C Meola and FF Briscoe contained the spill. While units were operating at the MVC an assist EMS call was dispatched out to 46 Huntington Drive. RE1723 diverted from the MVC and took up the assist call. Once clear RE1723 returned to the MVC.


 
HLFC RESPONDS TO PEMBERTON AGAIN

Sunday evening Task Force 184 ( District's 18, 29, 17 and 19 ) was dispatched out to Presidential Lakes section of Pemberton Township for a reported house fire involving the chimney. C1840 was first on location confirming there was an active chimney fire with possible extension into the attic. T1726 with 2, C1720 (Fenton) with 3 and U1728 with 3 responded from 172. crews went into service with fire attack and roof operations. All unit's cleared within an hour and with out any reported discrepancies.  


 
FIRE PREVENTION TIME HAS COME AGAIN

The Hampton Lakes Fire Company will be hosting an open house on Sunday October 12th 2008 starting at 1300 hours. There will be a Fire fighting demo performed, static Equipment display and a Vehicle Extraction Rescue. The public will get an up close and personnel view of the Fire Department and how they can protect them selves and there family\'s. Also members of the New Jersey State Forest Fire Service and the New Jersey State Police will be present. Remember SMOKE DETECTORS SAVE LIVES. During fire prevention District 43 had two reported fires while at station 172. The first call was smoke in a building elevator shaft at the Seneca High School. The second call was for a reported dwelling fire, reported by the home owner for fire in the attic. These calls keep all crews very busy during the day.


 
SINGLE VEHICLE ROLL OVER ON ROUTE 70

Station’s 172, 171, 439, 178, 179 and Burlington County Medics were dispatched to Route 70  in the area of Friendship Road for a single vehicle roll over rescue assignment. RE1723 responded first due C1720 (Fenton) and D/C17201 (Meola) on board along with BLS 1787.  Upon arrival unit’s found a sliver 4 door Dodge Stratus on it’s roof in a drainage ditch. The driver was pulled out of the vehicle by passer bys who had had stopped to help prior to emergency services arrival. Command 1720 (Fenton) recalled all unit’s except 172 unit’s and BLS. The driver was alert and had only sustained minor injuries. She was transport to the hospital by EMS. RE1723, U1728 and FP1729 stood by until the vehicle was secured by the tow company for transport. All unit's cleared with out incident.

 
HAMPTON LAKES TO HOLD VEHICLE RESCUE CLASS

September 5th, 6th and 7th HLFC will be holding a vehicle rescue class at station 172. The class will be taught by Emergency Training and Consulting. Browns Mills Station 181 and Merchantville Fire Company from Camden County will take part in the class. There will be around 30 students taking part in the certification class. Students will learn new vehicle technology, patient care and packaging, air bag lifts and extrication skills and techniques. Any firefighter who is a New Jersey EMT-B will 16 elective CEU credits by completing the class.

 
TROUBLE IN THE QUARRY

Station 172 was dispatched to Burrs Mill Road at the quarry to assist Station 178 with a special assignment.  A group of Juveniles were diving into the Quarry water and one of them dove into a section where the water was only 7 feet deep. 1780 arrived and was unable to gain access to the patient and requested Rescue 4399 to the scene. RE1723 and Chief  1720 arrived and RE1723's crew arrived and began cutting the locks on the gates. 4399's crew arrived with Chief 4300 and began to search for the victim. Chief 4300 requested Station 221 added to the assignment for the Rope Rescue Team.  Southstar was also added for the lights and possible airlift of the patient.  Crews were able to gain access to the patient. Friends of the Patient were able to get her up the hill side. Crews Packaged the Patient and she was Airlifted to the hospital without further incident.

 
RESCUE ON ROUTE 70

Station's 172, 171, 431, 178,179, 439 and ALS were dispatched to Route 70 and BigHill Road for a reported motor vehicle crash with entrapment. Command 1720 (Fenton) was first on location confirming the report and requesting Medavac's to be placed on stanby. RE1723, RE1712, E1713, C4300, C1710, R439, E431, BLS and ALS responded. Fire Police Strike Team (I) India was also requested for traffic control and to shut down Route 70. Investagation concluded that the were two vehicles involved in the crash a Ford pickup and a Toyota sedan. Both the driver and passenger were removed from the pickup  and transported by Medavac to a trama center for treatment. Dispite all efforts made the driver of the Toyota  did not pull threw and was pernouced at the scene.  New Jersey State Police is handling the Crash Investigation. All units cleared around 10:30.
Woodland woman dies in crash on Route 70

SOUTHAMPTON — A Woodland Township woman was killed and two teenagers were injured yesterday morning in a two-vehicle accident on Route 70, state police said. Gwen H. Shepherd, 48, was pronounced dead at the scene of the 7:50 a.m. accident near the intersection with Sooy Place Road, police said. Investigators said Shepherd was turning onto Route 70 from Sooy Place Road when the driver's side of her vehicle was struck by an eastbound pickup truck that crossed into the westbound lane. The pickup overturned after the initial collision, police said. Shepherd died on impact, police said. Her husband was notified of her death when he approached the accident scene while driving the same route she took. The driver of the pickup truck, Michael H. Rahinsky, 18, of Shamong, suffered facial, hip and internal injuries, police said. His passenger, Jessica A. Croneperger, 18, of Mount Laurel also suffered bruises, cuts and possible internal injuries, police said. Both were flown to Cooper University Hospital in Camden for treatment. Their conditions were not available. An investigation into the accident is continuing and no charges have been filed, police said. Route 70 was closed in both directions for about three hours following the accident.
